Brandee Thomas, WomenSource Board Member and Chair of the Community Collaboration Committee
Brandee Thomas has been a board member of WomenSource since 2015, but has been an active member since 2009. Recently, we asked Brandee a few questions so we can all get to know her a little better!
How did you get involved with WomenSource? “I started attending WomenSource events in 2009. I was very excited to be asked to be a Power of the Purse model in 2011 and 2016. I participate in WomenSource because it is an important resource in our community. We need more spaces for women to come together and encourage each other!”
Why did you choose to Chair the Community Collaboration Committee? “I love planning events, so this committee has been a natural fit. I also appreciate the opportunity to help bring women of all walks together. I think that brings a unique energy to an event and helps to break down barriers we have unknowingly put up. I really love our tagline: Choose your adventure, find your tribe.”
What can we expect from that committee this year? “We have fun! Even when we’re tackling weightier topics like addiction, we find a way to keep it interesting and engaging. This year, we want to make sure that we have an adventure for everyone. From self-defense to book studies and hiking to networking, we’re casting a wide net to bring in more ladies to see all that WomenSource has to offer!”
What is your favorite WomenSource program? “GIRL POWER! Hands Down!”
What is something that a person reading this might not know? “I’m OBSESSED with crafts! So much so, that I turned it into a small business to help fund my habit. My online boutique, Sugar and Spice Wear & Flair, has been live on Etsy for about a year (sugarandspicewf.etsy.com). I love creating shirts, accessories and home decor and then getting the opportunity to see customers love them too. Custom orders are my jam. My biggest thrill is getting an email request about bridal party gifts or event swag. Being a small business owner is an adventure I hadn’t planned, but I love it. Brandee earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Georgia Southern University. She worked as a full time journalist for 6 years before shifting to the nonprofit world. “I love both fields equally and it has been interesting to see how they have intersected these last 8 years.” Along with WomenSource, Brandee also serves on the United Way of Hall County Board of Directors and is a member of the Ninth District Opportunity Headstart Policy Council.
